Sustainable income
We have worked with more than 1000 rural farmers to practice sustainable farming practices that include:
- Soil conservation.
- Pest control using organic products.
- Increasing crop area.
These activities have helped farmers generate both sustainable food and income through market support, value creation and financial stability through COCOBA.
MARKET SUPPORT
Due to the remote location and poor infrastructure, rural communities fail to secure good markets that can help them earn more income from the crops they produce; so they end up selling to local traders at very low prices. This has discouraged many farmers, and most of them end up engaging in illegal activities to earn additional income.
ECOWICE buys commodities produced by the community at a fair price which helps them to gain additional income.
VALUE ADDITION
The crops are then transported to a processing center in Morogoro municipal to produce high-quality products. The products are then sold to shops and supermarkets in various places in Tanzania.
SAVING AND LOANS
After generating income the community saves their income in their groups of savings and loans called, Community Conservation Bank (COCOBA).
