Mkata river support life for wild animals of Mikumi national park especially for migratory animals like elephants. The river also passes through villages where it supports various livelihoods to an adjacent community such as fishing, farming, and livestock keeping.
Hower the river is highly polluted by wastes associated with human activities. This week; Members of our environmental club namely the SAVE WILD club comprising of primary school pupils collected wastes to make it good for wildlife and their families. Through that, they also gained an opportunity to about various types of wastes and how to dispose of them. They collected both solid waste, organic waste. Organic waste was burned while solid waste that mostly included plastic bottles were collected and stored for recycling.
