IMPACT EXAMPLE:

“I used to make charcoal and sell when I got low harvests from farm, now I have the best alternative”.

Arbogast Mkude is a 49 year old peasant living at Maharaka village adjacent Mikumi national park. He is married to his wife Hamisa with five children.

For years, Mkude’s crops have suffered because of frequent drought, unproductive soil and poor seeds. He is unable to have adequate food and money from his crops, that make him struggle to support his family. Mkude decided to make charcoal from the nearby forest adjacent Mikumi national park.

When ECOWICE provided him with modern beekeeping skills and beehives……..,

Soon Mkude is able to produce honey and sell to ECOWICE at the best price.

He is able to earn money that helped him to take his daughter Revina to university. He has adequate food as a result of purchasing improved seeds that cope from drought. With this benefit, Mkude stopped charcoal production and was able to convince his neighbor who was also a charcoal producer to join his beekeeping group. This made him to get a conservation reward fund from ECOWICE, this helped him to employ enough labor for farm activities.

Now, Mkude’s family is living a happy life, his community has now starting to follow, they are committed to conserve Mikumi national park.
